Minehead
Beach. An excellent large sandy beach which sweeps
around Minehead Bay offering far reaching views over the
Bristol Channel and along the Welsh coast. Minehead beach
is accessed by a wide attractive promenande. Minehead
Golf Club and Butlins Holiday Park are located at one
end, the old historical part of Minehead at the other...
home to fishermens cottages and Minehead harbour. Porlock
has a shingle beach ideal for a picnic or walking the
dog, but not sandy or suitable for young children to swim.
If your up to a cliff decent and climb try Sillery Sands
at Lynmouth. Lee Bay is adored by many, Combe Martin beach
is quaint but small, Watermouth Cove is a favorite spot
to watch boats come and go or enjoy a cliif walk. Ilfracombe
has a good harbour, Hele Bay and Tunnel Beaches. Lee in
Fuchisa Valley is tiny andt intresting, Morthoe has miles
of scenic coastal walks around Mort Point.
Two of
Britain's best beaches are within easy reach of Exmoor
National Park. The superb north Devon holiday beaches
of Woolacombe and Putsbrough offer you 4 miles of golden
sand. They are about 1 hours easy drive on fairly quiet
roads from Minehead. You have a choice of two scenic routes,
one route is via Dunster, Wheddon Cross, Exford, Simonsbath,
Blackmore Gate. The other route is possibly the most scenic
coastal drive in southern Britain. This Somerset and North
Devon coastal route passes through Porlock, County Gate,
Countisbury, Lynmouth then meanders its way south past
Combe Martin, Ilfracombe, Parracombe and Berynarbour.
This route offers you simply awe-inspiring far-reaching
seascapes from the top of Porlock Hill and Countisbury
Hill. And extensive inland moorland views down the Brendon
Valley, over the Doone Valley and Brendon Common. As you
drive down towards Lynmouth look over the glorious Watersmeet
Estate or take a detour to the amazing Valley of Rocks.
This area delights visitors who love walking amid amazing
coastal scenery, Woody Bay is another delightful place.
Exmoor
and west Somerset also has Dunster Beach which enjoys
lovely views along the Somerset coast. Dunster Beach is
privatly owned, kept very clean, has car parking and a
little cafe. Dogs may be walked on one end of Dunster
Beach. Dunster Beach also offers attractive beach side
chalets to rent, many have direct access to the beach
and sea views. Blue Anchor Beach attracts fishermen galore.
Kilve Beach is ideal for fossil hunters.More beaches and
coastal areas Porlock Shingle Ridge, Lee Bay, Combe Martin
Beach, Ilfracombe Beach. A little further afield, but
within easy driving distance are the 4 miles of golden
sand on Woolacombe Beach and Putsbrough Beach. Perfect
for families holidays. Just past Baggy Point on route
to Barnstaple are the famous north Devon surfing beaches
of Croyde and Saunton. Braunton Burrows is unique and
world famous.
